Kenya Airways to Dollar Denominate its Domestic Fares

Nairobi 24th October, 2011 … Pride of Africa, Kenya Airways has announced that its domestic fares will now be dollar denominated.
The move, which takes immediate effect, comes in the wake of recent fluctuations in the exchange rate between Kenya Shilling and the US dollar.
The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Titus Naikuni explained the move stating, “while Kenya Airways international fares have always been dollar denominated, we have been compelled to do the same with the domestic fares  due to the frequent fluctuation of the Kenya Shilling to the US dollar that we have experience over the past few weeks.”

Kenya Airways to acquire 2 Boeing 777-300 ER Aircrafts

Nairobi 12 October, 2011 ...
Kenya Airways fleet modernisation and expansion programme today received a boost when the airline signed an agreement with General Electric Capital Aviation Services, GECAS  the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of General Electric, for the delivery of two Boeing 777-300 Extended Range (ER) aircrafts.

The two aircrafts are expected to be join Kenya Airways fleet in October 2013 and May 2014 respectively with the aircrafts scheduled to operate long haul routes including Amsterdam, Bangkok, Guangzhou and Dubai in order to maximise both passenger and cargo traffic.

SkyTeam Alliance launches online Round The World Planner

Kenya Airways customers to benefit from new application which enables itinerary planning for customers, travel agents worldwide

NAIROBI, 22 September 2011….Customers of the national carrier Kenya Airways can now use an online application that enables them to plan their travel to various destinations around the world in advance.

The user-friendly application was developed by SkyTeam, the global airline alliance, of which Kenya Airways is a member, and allows customers to create their own Round-The-World itinerary using the extensive networks of all fourteen SkyTeam member airlines.
Round-The-World Planner will also enable travel agents to make bookings through a dedicated SkyTeam website.
Two versions of the Round the World planner have been developed. Both enabling customers to build tailor made itineraries in compliance with SkyTeam’s Round the World fare products, terms and conditions.



Kenya Airways to commence flights to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

… Route marks airline’s 56th global destination
Nairobi September 14, 2011 …
National carrier and Pride of Africa Kenya Airways today announced that it will commence flights to the Middle Eastern city of Jeddah in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia effective 18th October 2011. The much anticipated service marks Kenya Airways’ 56th global destination and 3rd in the Middle East.
Kenya Airways will operate the route twice a week every Tuesday and Saturday on a Boeing 737-800.
This new service highlights Kenya Airways ambitious growth plans to expand its network not only across Africa but also beyond the borders of the continent. The commencement of these flights will give Kenyans and other regional and international travelers from all over the world, direct access from Nairobi to the oil-rich nation.
Located on the middle of the Eastern coast of the Red Sea, Jeddah is the economic and tourist capital of the country. With a population estimated at about 3.4 Million people, it is Saudi Arabia’s second largest city after the capital Riyadh.



Kenya Airways Masai Mara Half-Marathon scheduled for November 19th 2011

The 2011 edition of the annual Kenya Airways Masai Mara Half-Marathon has been scheduled to take place on 19th November, 2011. This will be the third time that this unique marathon will take place in Lemek Conservancy within the environs of Fairmont Mara Safari Club.
Speaking during a media briefing where Kenya Airways announced its sponsorship of Kshs. 9 million for this year’s event, Kenya Airways Area Manager, Kenya Ms. Nita Nagi said that they expected this year’s edition to attract more participants especially from key tourism markets. “We have already registered a high level of interest in the event from both from co sponsors, athletes and tourists; we expect that this will be a much bigger marathon than last year,” she explained.


Kenya Airways receives its 8th Embraer aircraft

Pride of Africa also expects to receive another E190 jet in the next three weeks
Nairobi September 11th 2011…
Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa, is expected to grow its capacity with the arrival of a new Embraer E190 jet to KQ’s fleet.
Registered as 5Y-KYR, the E190 touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport yesterday at 2100hrs from Sao Jose dos Campos, Embraer Headquarters in Brazil. As the KYR made its way to Nairobi another Kenya Airways E190 made its maiden test flight in Brazil and is expected to be delivered to Nairobi by next month.
KYR is expected into service within the next two weeks and will be deployed to operate to the South, Central and North Africa regions.


Kenya Airways Staff & Customers contribute towards the National Famine Relief Kitty

Total amount raised by Pride of Africa towards the initiative now at Kshs. 32,489,930 M

Nairobi, September 2nd, 2011… Kenya Airways has today added its contribution towards the National Famine Relief kitty after its staff and customers raised Kshs. 13, 538,822.
This amount has been raised through different initiatives announced by the airline last month during the Kenyans for Kenya Corporate Launch, where the airline made a Kshs 10M corporate donation towards famine hit areas of Turkana.


Embraer and Kenya Airways ratify contract for upto 26 Embraer 190 Jets

Pride of Africa to use the E-jets for to enhance its ongoing Expansion Program

Nairobi & São José dos Campos, August 30, 2011 – Embraer and the Pride of Africa Kenya Airways have finalized the contract for the acquisition of 10 EMBRAER 190 jets. This agreement completes contract negotiations following the signing of a Letter of Intent during the 49th Paris Air Show in June 2011.  The deal also includes purchase rights for 16 aircraft, which could be either the EMBRAER 190 or other models of the E-Jet family.
“This final agreement from Kenya Airways for more aircraft in its fleet demonstrates not only its confidence in the future but also its endorsement of the versatility of our family of E-Jets”, said Paulo César de Souza e Silva, Embraer President, Commercial Aviation. “This confirmation is a sign that our E-Jets have been instrumental in the growth of our largest operator in Sub Saharan Africa, and provided it with an optimal tool to develop new routes while providing their customers with a reliable and comfortable aircraft.”


Kenya Airways reaches agreement with Aviation Workers Union

…both parties finally sign the long outstanding Collective Bargaining Agreement
Nairobi, August 8, 2011…
Kenya Airways, has today signed the outstanding Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Aviation and Allied Workers Union (K) (AAWU).
The new agreement, signed by the airline’s Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Titus Naikuni and AAWU General Secretary Nicholas Baraza and witnessed by Central Organization of Trade Unions Deputy Secretary General Isaiah Kubai and the Federation of Kenya Employers, will see the union members get a 25% increase in their salaries and allowances which will be backdated to 2008. The new CBA 2010-12 will also have a 20% increase in salaries and allowances. 



Kenya Airways Boosts National Famine Relief Kitty ..national carrier donates KSh. 10 Million to the Kenya Red Cross

Nairobi, August 5, 2011…National Carrier Kenya Airways has today announced its support towards the ongoing Kenyans for Kenya initiative that seeks to raise funds to help feed those affected by the famine raging across parts of the country.
The airline has come up with nine initiatives to help feed and alleviate famine in the affected parts of Northern Kenya where people have been going without food for days.


Kenya Airways flight operations continue as per schedule

Nairobi, August 5, 2011… Kenya Airways would like to confirm to its customers, travel trade and members of the public that its flights are operating normally as per the schedule.

Only KQ 760/1 to and from Johannesburg has been cancelled due to lack of equipment to operate. Passengers on this flight have been rebooked on KQ 762/3.
Kenya Airways CEO, Dr. Titus Naikuni, has reassured Kenya Airways passengers and the general public that the airline’s operations are functioning as scheduled. “All the 127 flights scheduled to operate today have been fully crewed and we do not expect any major disruptions,” says Dr. Naikuni.
Kenya Airways management continues to respect due process regarding negotiations with the Aviation Allied Workers Union on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The matter, currently pending in the Industrial Court, will come up for hearing on 31st August.


Kenya Airways Granted 3rd Frequency to Luanda, Angola

Nairobi, July 27th 2011 … The governments of Kenya and Angola have concluded and signed the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) paving way for Kenya Airways to expand its operations into the Southern Africa country.



Kenya Airways launches an On-board Donation Platform

Nairobi, July 20, 2011…. Kenya Airways has launched a fund-raising initiative in support of the various charitable activities across the network.
In the initiative dubbed “Change makes Change”, passengers can make voluntary cash donations in specially designed envelopes each Kenya Airways flight. Kenya Airways hopes to raise the funds for its community social responsibilities by encouraging passengers on both international and local flights to make the donations.
The airline serves over three million passengers every year and flies to 55 destinations worldwide.

Kenya Airways commences flights to Ouagadougou

Airline obtains 5th Freedom Rights to fly to Cotonou, Benin

Nairobi, July 15th 2011 … Kenya Airways has today commenced flights to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. The new route, the 55th of the airline’s global destinations, and 45th in Africa, will see Kenya Airways strengthen its presence in West Africa with direct flights to Burkina Faso’s capital city.

The new destination will be serviced with a Boeing 737 –700, twice a week every Friday and Monday out of Nairobi.
During the event to officially inaugurate the service, Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer Dr. Titus Naikuni announced that the airline has also been granted 5th Freedom Rights by both Government of Benin and Burkina Faso. This means that Kenya Airways will now be able sell tickets and uplift passengers between Cotonou and Ouagadougou and vice versa.
“This is an important development for Kenya Airways as it offers further consolidation of our expanding African network and brings us closer to achieving our ambition of being the carrier of choice for Africa. Our plans to fly to every Capital in Africa by 2013 and consolidate our route network on the continent are thus well on course,” noted Dr. Naikuni. 



Kenya Airways and KALPA in Agreement

Kenya Airways management and the Kenya Airlines Pilot Association (KALPA) have agreed and signed the collective bargaining agreement.As a result the pilots will now operate as per their schedules and also observe goodwill by extending their duty as per the agreed CBA between KALPA and Kenya Airways management.
Goodwill is being available to work during off time but within legal limits as approved by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

Kenya Airways to commence flights to 55th destination

National carrier Kenya Airways has officially announced plans to commence flights to their 55th destination, Ougadougou in Burkina Faso, starting from 15th July, 2011.
The airline will operate twice weekly flights to the West African destination on Fridays and Mondays.
Kenyan nationals wishing to travel to Burkina Faso are advised that a valid visa as well as a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into the country.



Kenya Airways doubles capacity to Juba

National flag carrier and Pride of Africa, Kenya Airways has doubled the number of flights to the Southern Sudanese city of Juba effective 1st July, 2011.
In a move aimed at meeting the rising demand for travel to the region by individuals and organizations, the airline will now fly twice daily to Juba from Nairobi.
This move comes exactly one year after Kenya Airways commenced flights to Juba. Since then, there has been a marked increase in travel by both individuals and corporate as well as developmental organizations seeking to do business in the region.

55th destination consolidates airlines presence in West Africa 

Nairobi June 23, 2011 … Kenya Airways has today affirmed that plans to grow its network across Africa were on course, after it officially announced its intent to fly to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso starting July 15th.
The new route, the 55th of the airline’s global destinations, will operate via Cotonou, the capital of Benin. 
The airline will operate the route with a Boeing 737 – 800, twice weekly every Friday and Monday out of Nairobi.



Kenya Airways Inaugural Flight to Ndjamena Takes off

Airline to operate two times a week through Cotonou, Benin

June 21, 2011 … Kenya Airways has now commenced flights to its 54th destination, N’djamena in Chad.
The new route which will operate via Cotonou, the capital of Benin, will see Kenya Airways strengthen its presence in Central Africa, a landlocked geographical territory that depends largely on imports.
The airline will operate the route with a wide-body Boeing 737 – 800, 2 times a week every Sunday and Wednesday out of Nairobi.
“We are seeking to consolidate our presence in the African market by flying from every Capital in Africa by 2013. Our objective this year is to open 8 new destinations including N’djamena,” said Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer Dr. Titus Naikuni.



Embraer 190 Jet To Expand Kenya Airways Fleet

Largest E-Jets operator in Africa will add as many as 20 aircraft 

Nairobi  / São José dos Campos, June 21, 2011 – Embraer and the Kenya’s national flag carrier Kenya Airways signed a Letter of Intent, subject to final agreement, for the acquisition of ten EMBRAER 190 jets, yesterday, at the 49th Paris Air Show, in France. The deal also includes options for another ten aircraft, which could be either the EMBRAER 190 (E190) or the EMBRAER 170 (E170).

“Kenya Airways’ decision to increase its fleet of EMBRAER 190 jets is great news, and we are delighted with this further sign of confidence from the largest E-Jets operator in Sub Saharan Africa,” said Paulo César de Souza e Silva, Embraer President, Commercial Aviation. “Complementing the existing E-Jets in their fleet, this is proof of the reliability and efficiency the jets bring to airlines, demonstrating the versatility, economics and performance of the E-Jets family.”

With the projected order, the total number of E-jets ordered by Kenya Airways comes to 20, considering aircraft acquired directly from Embraer or through leasing companies.

Kenya Airways Chief Executive appointed to IATA Board of Governors

Appointment places Dr. Naikuni at the centre of Aviation Industry Decision Making Body.

Nairobi, June 10, 2011 … Kenya Airways is pleased to announce the appointment of its Group Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Titus Naikuni to the International Air Travel Association (IATA) Board of Governors.
Dr. Naikuni was elected to the IATA board at the conclusion of the Association’s 67th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore on 6th June. He was also appointed to the 2012 Nominating committee. This committee has the responsibility of nominating candidates to the IATA Board of Governors.
With this appointment Dr. Naikuni returns to the IATA Board having served for four years from 2004 to 2009.

Kenya Airways boosts fleet with delivery of 7th Embraer

Nairobi June 03rd 2011 ... Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa continued on its drive to grow and modernize its aircraft fleet size as it takes delivery of an additional Embraer airliner.

Designated as KYQ, the E-190 jet touched down at JKIA airport at 1835hrs on 01st June  from the Embraer factory based in Brazil. It was  received by Kenya Airways Technical Director, Tom Kadoyo.

The aircraft is expected into service within the next two weeks and will be deployed to operate to the Southern and Central Africa regions. Commencing just prior to the delivery of the aircraft, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director Dr. Titus Naikuni noted, "We are in the final stages of securing all the necessary regulatory approvals for the aircraft to start operating," further noting that the aircraft will undergo some further customization by its engineers before eventually being commercially deployed.

Kenya Airways set to receive 7th Embraer aircraft

Nairobi May 25th 2011… Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa, is expected to grow its capacity with the arrival of a new Embraer E190 jet to KQ’s fleet.
The aircraft is expected into service within the next two weeks and will be deployed to operate to the Southern and Central Africa regions.

Kenya Airways launches passenger program to cut carbon emissions

Airline’s passengers to contribute towards carbon offsetting initiative

Friday, May 6, 2011… Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa has today announced the launch of a new voluntary Carbon offsetting tool aimed at providing a channel for its customers to contribute towards reducing the effect of carbon emissions by supporting environmental sustainability initiatives.

In the unique initiative developed in cooperation with International Air Transport Association (IATA), the airline will now offer its passengers the opportunity to participate directly in offsetting the Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions related to their flights.

The program is based on a Carbon Calculator Tool built into the airline’s online ticket booking process and through this it is now possible for a passenger to pay an additional amount in respect of carbon emissions related to that flight applied per person.
 
Speaking during the official launch to unveil the program, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director Dr. Titus Naikuni said, “This is an exciting development for Kenya Airways because it shows the commitment that we have to environmental sustainability. What is even more interesting is that we are giving our customers an opportunity to walk on this environmental conservation journey together with us.”



Kenya Airways builds classrooms for Esupetai Pri School in Narok

Kenya Airways has once more given education and learning in Kenya a boost by building classrooms for Esupetai Primary School in Narok.

The project, part of the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, will help improve learning in the area by reducing the long distance the children in the community trek to get to school. The long trek to school is also dangerous because wild animals frequently roam the area in the early morning and evenings.

Kenya Airways Head of World Class Operations, Mr. Paul Obiero, said the airline was keen on investing back in the community as responsible citizen.

“Kenya Airways does more than transportation. We are also keen on partnering with communities. We are proud to be associated with the school,” said Mr Obiero who was also the chief guest at the handing over ceremony.

 


KENYA AIRWAYS OPERATING PERFORMANCE; 4th QTR – JAN to MAR 2011

Kenya Airways releases its operating results for the fourth quarter ended 31st March 2011.

The company put into the market capacity totalling 3,306m seat kilometres which was 12.5% better than prior year’s level as a result of incremental frequencies and introduction of new destinations in the second and third quarter.  New destinations launched in the course of the year included Rome, Muscat, Juba, Luanda, Nampula and Malindi.

Capacity offered into Europe registered a 11.5% growth compared to the same quarter of prior year.  This was largely due to the introduction of flights to Rome and increased frequencies on the London route.  The Middle East, Far East and Asia regions grew by 8.0% compared to the same period prior year.  This is attributed to the introduction of Muscat flights via Dubai.

 


KENYA AIRWAYS RESUMES FLIGHTS TO ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST

Nairobi, 26th April 2011….. Kenya Airways would like to inform its passengers, customers, the travel trade and the public that it has resumed scheduled flights to Abidjan Cote d’ivoire after a month’s absence due to the political skirmishes that had rocked the country.

The Pride of Africa resumes the route with three flights a week linked with Dakar starting 2nd May 2011 operating on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Kenya Airways flights to Abidjan/Dakar were re routed Accra, Ghana on 1st April due to security reasons. But as a result of the improved political and security situation in Cote d’ivoire, Abidjan flights have been reinstated. Kenya Airways flies daily to Dakar, 3 times a week via Abidjan and 4 times a week via Bamako Mali.

In the meantime Kenya Airways would like to thank its passengers for the understanding and patience during this period. Kenya Airways do look forward to offering customers a pleasant travel experience back on the Abidjan route.

Kenya Airways reaches agreement with Aviation Workers Union on Job Evaluation

Nairobi, Thursday April 21st… Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa, has today signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Aviation and Allied Workers Union (AAWU) on the implementation of the just concluded Job Evaluation Exercise.
The new agreement, signed by the airline’s Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Titus Naikuni and AAWU General Secretary Nicholas Baraza and witnessed by Central Organization of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli and the Federation of Kenya Employers represented by Linus Kariuki, outlines the outcome of the job evaluation exercise and explains the resulting job grading for Kenya Airways unionized employees. 
The outcome of the Job Evaluation and grading exercise shall be used to improve and address the anomalies in the Collective Bargaining Agreement as agreed during the Return to Work Formula that was signed on 15th August 2009.

18th April 2010...Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa lead other corporates and organizations in boosting government efforts to increase the national forest cover by planting a record 250,000 trees at the Ngong Hills forest over the weekend.
The trees planted through the “Plant-a-Future” initiative, has seen the Pride of Africa team up with other organisations since 2007, in various environmental activities geared to boost the national forest cover from the current 2% to the targeted 10% as pe the country’s development blueprint, Vision 2030.
Speaking at this year’s tree planting exercise, Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer Dr. Titus Naikuni noted, that the airline’s participation has been fuelled by the commitment to protect the Ngong Hills ecosystem. “This ecosystem is directly within our flight path and that is why we have over the past four years remained firm on our commitment planting trees each year in order to boost the Ngong Hills ecosystem”, he added.
Naikuni noted that while significant progress was made in the first and second phases of the project, the third phase was affected by the prolonged drought in 2009 that saw many of the seedlings drying up. In 2010 the plant a future initiative focused on replacing the seedlings that were affected by the drought.  90,000 indigenous seedlings were planted as replacements, in a addition to 30,000 seedlings in the surrounding area.
“The plan this year is to plant 250,000 indigenous tree seedlings that will also act as replacements for the seedlings that have died over the past few years,” he said.



Kenya Airways to train additional pilots

Airline on course to meet 441 pilots target for the financial year 2011/12

Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa has announced that it was on course to meet its target pilot target for the financial year 2011/2012.
The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr Titus Naikuni confirmed this during the commissioning of the last group of seventeen ab initio students for training in South Africa.
“With the commissioning of this group, we are getting closer to reaching the required number of pilots for our growing fleet,” he explained noting that the airline was focusing on increasing the number of pilots in tandem with the increase of its fleet as well as to meet the demands of the expanding route network.
Dr Naikuni added that Kenya Airways had enhanced its pilot training program. He further noted that with the recent installation of a 737 flight simulator at the Pride Center at Embakasi as a cost of KSh 1.1B, the pilots were able to get more in-house training.



Kenya Airways, Boeing Finalize order for nine 787 Dreamliners

Pride of Africa to also consider an option of taking Four Extra 787-8s

Kenya Airways, The Pride of Africa, and Boeing have reached a settlement agreement on the delayed delivery of the 9 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. Kenya Airways signed a purchase agreement in 2006 for 9 firm Boeing 787-8 aircraft also taking an option to purchase 4 additional 787-8 aircraft.
The first Dreamliner which was expected to enter into Kenya Airways service in October 2010 is now expected to be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2013. The airline has also re-affirmed its intention to exercise the option of purchasing four more 787-8 after the initial delivery of the nine aircraft.
The Dreamliners will come in at a time that the airline predicts a momentous growth in passenger and cargo demand and a rapidly expanding route network.



Kenya Airways Flight B737 Simulator Certified

Nairobi February 10, 2011… National Flag carrier Kenya Airways has commenced its in-house aircraft simulator training for pilots after the simulator was evaluated, certified and accredited for training use by both the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The evaluation of the Boeing 737-800W simulator was carried out by both the UK and Kenya Civil Aviation Authorities following a formal request by the airline to be accredited by the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
With the certification, the airline’s new simulator can now be used to offer the relevant training to B737 pilots from all over the world at the airlines training center, the Pride Centre.



Kenya Airways Service Heroes Staff Honoured

146 Heroes are recognized for offering passengers superior customer service

The 3rd and last service heroes’ ceremony was held at the Pride Centre recently to celebrate and recognize good customer service across the airline.
The event themed “Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary” saw 146 service heroes from across the company recognized and awarded for their effort in ensuring good customer service at their different places of work.
Good customer service is key to the bottom line of any company financials and this was evident by the senior representation from Kenya Airways board and management led by Kenya Airways Chairman Mr. Evanson Mwaniki, Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Titus Naikuni, Chief operations Officer Bram Stellar, several directors and departmental heads.
Duty Service Supervisor JKIA Mrs. Janet Rotich scooped the Gold hero award for her consistency on improving the customer experience at the domestic terminal at Unit 3.  Dr. Naikuni noted that he had seen Janet grow over the years and was proud of her achievements in the domestic unit.



Kenya Airways Constructs Dining Hall for Ikuu Special School

Nairobi 30/3/2011... National carrier and Pride of Africa Kenya Airways announced the support of a school of children with special needs by building a dining hall for them as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
The school, located in Chuka, Eastern Kenya, is known as the Ikuu Special School for autistic and mentally handicapped children.
Speaking while making the official hand over of the dining hall, Kenya Airways Commercial Director, Mohan Chandra said that the airline had built the hall following a request by the administration and on Kenya Airways seeing the need to assist the school.

KQ Golf Safari winners set to participate at the Pro-am event 
Nairobi Wednesday, March 16 2011… National flag carrier and Pride of Africa Kenya Airways today reaffirmed its commitment to development of sports in Kenya by announcing its partnership with Kenya Open Golf limited as the official carrier during this year’s edition of the Barclays Kenya Open, the 43rd edition of the Championship.
As the official carrier the airline will fly in all the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) officials who will be supervising and managing the tournament and will also offer discounted rates to the professional golfers and enthusiasts from various destinations to participate in the tournament at a sponsorship cost of Ksh 2.2 million.
Speaking during a media briefing Ms Nita Nagi, the Kenya Airways Area Manager confirmed that the airline had taken up the sponsorship in an effort to support the highly rated event which is key to promoting Golf Tourism in Kenya.
The tournament is expected to attract at least 150 professionals, scheduled to take place from March 31st to April 3rd at the Muthaiga Golf Club. The event continues to be a showcase of top flight international golf and attracts approximately 100 players from the European Tour, and 50 from within Africa.



Kenya Airways joins Skyteam in welcoming Middle East Airlines into Alliance

Nairobi 8th March, 2011 …. National carrier Kenya Airways joins SkyTeam in welcoming the Alliances latest member, Middle East Airlines Air Liban (MEA) into the fold. MEA, the flag carrier of Lebanon, recently signed an agreement to join SkyTeam in 2012.
MEA will be the second airline from the Middle East to obtain membership into the Alliance. This development enhances Kenya Airways’ plans to expand its route network as it will offer customers easier access to the Middle East through Kenya Airways’ hub in Nairobi. 
SkyTeam is actively working to strengthen its presence in the Middle East, one of the world’s most important and rapidly growing economic regions. The addition of MEA to the alliance network will enable SkyTeam to compete more efficiently, not only within the Middle East, but also to and from Eastern and Western Africa. Kenya Airways Supports School within the Eselenkei Group Ranch

2nd March 2011 ... As part of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, Kenya Airways has donated desks to Iloirero Primary school within Amboseli National Park in Kajiado District.
The primary school which is located within the Eselenkei group ranch received 70 desks at a cost of Ksh 215,000 from the airline.
The school is located next to the Selenkay Conservancy run by the Gamewatchers Safaris and has a population of 350 students, 74 of whom are in nursery while the rest in primary. It has 6 built up classrooms to accommodate the students.



Kenya Airways to Increase Pilots through its Ab Initio Training Program

Nairobi March 1, 2011… National flag carrier and Pride of Africa Kenya Airways has moved to boost its aircraft piloting crew capacity in a race to increase the number of first officers and captains for the growing fleet.
The airline shortlisted and sent an additional eight Ab initio pilots for training in South Africa. Ab initio is pilot training for those who have had no previous experience. This brings to 45 the total number of Ab Initio recruits currently under training in South Africa. The company has already a total of 377 pilots in its employment.


Travelport and Kenya Airways sign extended distributor agreement

The two organizations commit to a further 5 year partnership

Nairobi, KENYA: 23 February, 2011 – Travelport, the business services provider to the global travel industry, and Kenya Airways have today jointly announced that their successful 14 year partnership is set to continue following the signing of a new GDS distributor agreement. 

Through the new agreement, Kenya Airways will continue to distribute the Galileo GDS and other innovative Travelport technology to travel agents in Kenya for the next five years.   As a result of the even closer working relationship with Travelport, GalileoKenya will rebrand to Travelport Kenya emphasising the marketing investment in the region.  The news of the extended distributor agreement follows a previous joint announcement made late last year of a new full content agreement between Travelport and Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways to acquire cargo freighter

Nairobi February 23, 2011… National flag carrier Kenya Airways today announced that it was developing its cargo division further by boosting its cargo capacity. The airline is for the first time set to acquire one freighter and plans to increase the freighter fleet as business demands.
Speaking while opening the Africa Air Cargo Conference in Nairobi, Group Managing Director and CEO Dr Titus Naikuni said that the airline was sourcing for a cargo freighter to be in service by next financial year which starts in April 2011. 
He said that the airline had noted rising demand for cargo services from customers and was keen to support the growth in intra-Africa Cargo growth. “The freighter will be used for operations across Africa destinations.”
It is intended that the freighter will be available both to the wider Kenya Airways network as well as interline partners with regular intra-Africa traffic. He added that the freighter service will be complemented by capacity offered by wide-body aircraft already serving Lusaka, Lilongwe, Harare and Kinshasa routes.

Kenya Airways Operating Performance; 3RD Qtr – Oct To Dec 2010

Kenya Airways releases its operating results for the third quarter ended 31st Dec 2010.

The company put into the market place capacity totalling 3,343m seat kilometres which was 5.2% better than last year’s level as a result of two new destinations launched in the third quarter to Rome and Malindi. 

Capacity offered into Europe registered a 2.5% growth compared to the same quarter of prior year.  The Middle East, Far East and Asia regions grew by 2.6% compared to last year largely due to the introduction of Muscat flights via Dubai.  The minimal growth was due to the operation of the smaller B767 instead of the larger B777.



KQ Holidays taps into Valentine season

Nairobi February 9th, 2011....... National Carrier Kenya Airways has slashed its fares to Mombasa and Malindi in a valentines promotion focusing on the prevailing romantic season to drive up passenger travel.

Kenya Airways Cargo becomes e-Freight Compliant.

Nairobi February 03 2011… National Flag carrier and Pride of Africa Kenya Airways Cargo has completed the installation of an electronic cargo monitoring system. Kenya Airways will only be the 2nd airline in Africa to achieve this.
Known as E-Freight, the new system is billed as the answer to cargo operational efficacy in a bid to reduce costs, improve transit times, accuracy and the competitiveness of airfreight.
Kenya Airways General Manager Cargo Sauda Rajab said in a statement that the installation of the E-Freight was also in compliance with an International Air Transport Association (IATA) led initiative that is designed to get all global carriers to make their transactions electronic.
Said Ms. Rajab; ‘E-Freight is an IATA-led global initiative for the air cargo industry to replace paper documents with electronic messages and involves carriers, freight forwarders, ground handlers, shippers and customs authorities.”



Kenya Airways Statement on KQ 701

Friday January 21, 2011: Kenya Airways would like to inform its passengers, customers, investors and the public of an incident involving flight KQ 701 from Harare. 
The incident involved a tyre lost in the air after it took off at Harare International Airport.      
The Boeing 737-300 KQD with 96 passengers and 7 crew landed safely in Nairobi as scheduled at 16.09 local time. JKIA emergency response unit was at hand to receive the aircraft on the runway and was prepared for any eventuality.

 

Kenya Airways Outsource Cash Handling Services

Nairobi, January 12, 2010… National carrier Kenya Airways has signed a cash handling partnership with the National Bank of Kenya, making it easier for cargo customers to pay freight, duty and handling charges at one stop shop.
The partnership signed between the Africa Cargo Handling Ltd, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kenya Airways and the bank, will see the airline’s cargo customers pay their freight and handling charges at National Bank branches within the cargo facilities at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.



KQ records 35% domestic passenger growth
